LONDON, November 17: For 77 percent of European respondents of a new YouGov survey, daily access to the Internet is more important than the use of a car or washing machine, while the same number indicated that they had watched online video in the last year.

 Furthermore, 51 percent had downloaded films over the Internet, while 43 percent had streamed movies online. In addition, 14 percent said that they watch Blu-ray films.

 The AMD European Connectivity Study, carried out by research firm YouGov, surveyed 5,000 people in France, Germany, Russia, Spain and the U.K. Other key finding include that 76 percent of respondents had engaged in gaming on a notebook or desktop PC in the last year. Plus, an HD visual experience is crucial for PC buyers; 59 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds surveyed said that one of their considerations for purchasing a notebook is the graphics quality.

 "Usage patterns of desktops and notebooks are changing dramatically," said Eszter Morvay, a senior research analyst for European Personal Computing at IDC. "While desktops are being embraced as a home entertainment hub, notebooks are increasingly chosen to enable a rich media experience on the go."
